Get your Instagram export

Your archive is built from the data export Instagram is required to give you. Requesting it takes about two minutes. Instagram then takes a few hours to a couple of days to prepare it.

Request the export

  1. Open Instagram and open the menu.
  2. Go to Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information.
  3. Tap or click Create export → choose your account →choose where to export—export to device is the one to pick.
  4. Set Format to JSON and Media quality to “Higher quality.”
  5. Start export.

Note: Because we believe privacy is important, we parse your file in your browser so the only data we read are from your Posts and Personal Information (specifically your handle, name, and bio).

Instagram will email you when your export is ready. Download the ZIP file(s) to your phone or computer — larger exports arrive as more than one ZIP, and you’ll add them all together. On the same device, open the magic link that I sent you. Follow the steps to import your Instagram Posts and the engine will generate your new site.

You can keep the archive private so only you can view it, or you can make it public. If you want to connect it to your own domain, let me know and I’ll give you the steps.
